A Survivor Who Inspires Me: Vicki Polin

A well-known abuse survivor named Vicki Polin wrote a blog about women being at risk from bad advice about dating. Vicki cares only about helping those at risk.

Polin is a polarizing figure in the Jewish community. On the one hand she is a tremendous advocate for victims. On the other hand, the abuse she described on the Oprah show in 1989 was so extreme that people have questioned her credibility.

(Four years later, in 1993, the Department of Justice issued a publication specifically about this type of abuse.)

Despite suffering severe trauma from her ordeal, Vicki Polin founded The Awareness Center to inform the public about sex offenders in the religious Jewish community. Vicki and anyone who volunteered for her received regular harassment.

Vicki is still around, speaking out.

When I think of a true hero in this area of work, Vicki's name immediately comes to mind.

She is one of those people who helps me to stay in faith.
