Some Thoughts On Colonialism

Everyone talks about colonialism these days. Learned a lot from seeing an exhibit of the art of Cuba at Cernuda Arte. We spend childhood trying to get out of school and adulthood wishing we could learn more.

The essence of colonialism - having to paint the invader (at Cernuda Arte)
The guide explained that during colonial times, for a Cuban artist to paint nature was a big deal. It symbolically told the invaders that “this land is my land.”
The painting on the bottom. Snapped it in a hurry. The most light skinned of the dark skinned Cuban women is waiting for a suitor to express interest in her. Colonial times meant strict racial castes.
Main thing I wanted to say here. Beware of “liberators” who promise a return to some magical, mythical past. It does not exist. It is over.

All we can do is move on.
